Joomla is more popular than SilverStripe by a long way but is it better? The answer is that it depends on what you need your website to do and your particular skill when it comes to writing code. SilverStripe is generally better in my opinion but only if you either know how to code in PHP or you have a developer on staff who can write PHP for you. If not then I think Joomla is better for you as it allows you to install plugins (new functionality) and themes without having to code.

Silverstripe 4 is the first version to use PHP7. I was doing some extra study on how PHP7, through its architecture, was made to be faster and I discovered that the speed of the PHP script execution was not the only benefit to Silverstripe using PHP7 as I had originally thought. It turns out there are a few more nuggets in there that can be useful such as new operators and type declarations. In this article, I look at two things that are useful from the new features.

Silverstripe CMS is a PHP based Framework and CMS. It has a very flexible PHP Framework for developers and a very well regarded CMS for its CMS editors. On the downside, it is very much a developers framework (you cant install a theme for example or extensions very easily if you aren't a developer) so it's not always suitable for the DIY'ers out there. Let's look at a few more examples of pros and cons.

I feel that Silverstripe is better than Wordpress but there really isn't a definitive answer. Silverstripe can be better suited to professional developers and web development houses but also to those who have a significant budget or some custom functionality requirements. Wordpress is more suited to those with small budgets and those non developers wanting to do a lot of the work themselves.
